I joined Colgate family as a Customer Development Trainee in 2008. During my one-year trainee program, Colgate has provided me on-the-job coaching. I go through four rotations: Customer Development, Marketing, National Customer Marketing and Huangpu Plant.
In my first rotation, I joined Beijing direct trade team and took charge of two customers, which was a great challenge for a fresh graduate. Fortunately, my boss, mentor and colleagues coach me a lot. As a result, I get improvement in doing business very fast. Finishing my rotation above, Marketing and National Customer Marketing is my next stop, which played a pivotal role in developing my skills not only brand management (such as re-launch of Colgate Palmolive Travel Pack), but also communication with different functions (such as project coordinator in Mini-mart POP Tool Kit). In addition, I had an opportunity to work in Huangpu Plant to understand more our products even I am a Customer Development Trainee. In Huangpu Plant, I learned the product production from the professional engineers so that I can tell the difference between products.
Colgate Trainee Program offers me the real multi-functional rotation. It is useful to make me understand the whole picture of Colgate business and broaden my career experience. In this one-year trainee program, I gain plenty of real business skills such as leadership, cross-functional teamwork and project planning. More significantly, I transit from graduate to professional career man with trainee program. Now I am enjoying my Colgate life. Thus, I believe Colgate is the best place for you to seek success!

Time flies, I have completed my trainee rotation in different functions such as customer development, national customer marketing, human resources, finance, manufacturing and now continue my Colgate journey in marketing brand team. Looking back to the past one year, I would say that it was one of the most wonderful periods in my life. Starting from the field sales position in Xi’an, I accumulated the basic sales knowledge and gradually cultivated my sense of business. Then I moved to national customer marketing team, where I moved closer to how national strategies are made and impacting sales value and market share nationally. Besides, I got exposure to category management and shopper marketing, which are the very advanced areas in the industry. Next I received trainings in both human resources and finance team and finally had precious experience in manufacturing team, which is great opportunity for trainees to understand how the whole company is running. Now, I am in marketing brand team, responsible for several projects and monitoring the whole process and results. From this cross-function rotation, I benefit a lot and grow rapidly from fresh graduate to professional marketer. Starting my career in Colgate is a good choice because it is really a great place to learn and grow.

I am so happy to start my career journey at Colgate when I graduated from South China University of Technology one year ago. Now, I have completed my one-year cross functional rotation among HR recruitment, National Customer Marketing, Marketing, Customer Development and Manufacturing. It was so wonderful and valuable experience for a HR trainee to rotate in business functions to learn what the business is and how the business runs.
Thanks to the caring culture of Colgate and manager’s great coaching, I successfully grown up as a professional person by taking care of the Campus Recruitment project, Trainee Development Program, as well as Internship Program.. Then I rotated to business functions where I had chances to get more understanding on how market strategy be worked out and how sales doing business with customers/distributors. The experience on launching a new product, delivering promotion for focus brand and visiting stores to check the 5P execution had made my daily work colorful, also well benefits to my future career development. My rotation end up with one month manufacturing learning which gave me a general map on how product come out and support business.
On top of this cross functional rotation, I strengthened my project management and communication skills, build up good networking within company, furthermore, stepped on a bright career path. |

The mission of the Finance Department is to be a valued partner in business sand financial competency.
The finance team is responsible for budget planning, financial reporting and analysis, credit control, accounting, treasury and working capital management, and internal control activities. Through teamwork, we have evolved from managing the financial controls to becoming an effective business partner.
In Colgate, finance people’s core competencies are developed by rotation through the various finance functions, which facilities learning of detailed financial analysis, consultation and management, with the aim of driving the overall business growth. |

I joined Colgate in 2007 as a trainee in Finance department. Over the past two years, I have grown rapidly under the help of the trainee program, including orientation, rotation, team building, course training, project assignment and on-job coaching. No matter which position I was in, the whole team would give me strong support on my growth. Therefore, I can adapt well in a short time. Besides, I was very lucky to get a three-month assignment chance to Colgate Sanxiao, that helps broaden my vision and knowledge. These kinds of experiences have strengthened both my functional and leadership competencies. Though I have completed the Trainee Program now, I am planning to continue the functional rotation, which will greatly help enrich my managerial prospect as I expect.
Colgate people are willing to share and listen, and always encourage continuous improvement on the jobs. What impressed me most is even I was a fresh, my thoughts and my ideas would be respected and considered. As a graduate, I felt so fortunate to get my career started at Colgate, as it is a Global Firm that has good management system, which provides me a large stage to develop, also it is a big warm family that has great culture—caring, which makes me enjoy my jobs. It’s really a good opportunity for a finance trainee to rotate in different functions, not only within finance, but also in commercial functions.
After 9 months’ work in Costing, I joined the mouthwash team for one month, which’s the most fast growing business. Besides some daily work, I took charge of projects from agency bidding to execution. That’s totally different between finance job, but also related by the whole company business cycle. There, I knew about how things going on in market and our strategy. Then I rotated to Sales, where I got an over view on how they execute marketing’s idea and project, how to track 5P execution in stores and a customer manager’s responsibility.
My third station was supply chain, toothpaste tube making area. There, I worked closely with engineers, got basic knowledge about tube making machine and production process.
The last station is National Customer Marketing, category management team, where we help customers to drive business based on the oral care category development. All the report based on data analysis helped me to gain skills on how to analyze sales data, how to get an overview on business.
As far as the whole program completed, I can understand how a business strategy goes on from setting step to execution, how the whole Colgate runs, how finance function provides support to business functions as business partner, and how to communicate with different functions. All these help me to understand the meaning and logic of finance work more deeply, which is a strong motivation for future work.
