Celanese in China

Celanese has been doing business in China since the 1960s, and in the late 1980s, Celanese began to invest in China by the establishment of joint ventures with Chinese partners. In 1997, sales representative offices were established in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou. Celanese (China) Holding Co. Ltd was created in 2004 to manage Celanese investments in China and product sales from all business segments.

Celanese business in China has been grown quickly in the past ten years. By 2010, 45-55% of Celanese earnings will come from Asia, and China is a very important part of this growth. In 2007, Celanese relocated the strategic management and headquarters of its Acetyls Business to Shanghai, China, to manage its global business as well as oversee Asia initiatives.

Celanese Manufacturing in China

Celanese has been investing in China for the past 20 years and has set up three wholly owned foreign enterprises and five joint ventures to supply the global market.

The oldest and more established is the Celanese Acetate joint venture with China National Tobacco. This partnership, which produces acetate tow and flake, was established 20 years ago and has manufacturing bases in Nantong, Zhuhai and Kun Ming. These three facilities hold a major market position in China's cigarette tow market.

The fourth joint venture was established in 2001 by Ticona, a business of Celanese, together with Polyplastics, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, and Korean Engineering Polymers. The joint venture, PTM Engineering Plastics (Nantong) Co., Ltd, has an annual capacity of 60,000 tones of POM produced locally.

In April of 2007, Celanese Corporation formed a joint venture with Hebei Shield Technology Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Tianjin Shield Fine Chemical Company Limited, to manufacture, distribute and sell the vinyl ester of neodecanoic acid, a monomer used to enhance vinyl-based emulsions systems.

Celanese also constructed a wholly owned, integrated chemical complex located at the Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park, north of the Yangtze River. Commercial production of certain chemicals is expected to being in mid-2007. The site includes capacity for acetic acid, vinyl acetate monomer, acetic anhydride, as well as vinyl acetate emulsions, GUR ultra high molecular weight polyethylene and Celstran.

The Nanjing integrated chemical facility will use Celanese's advanced technology and will combine with the Acetate joint ventures to form the backbone of Celanese's growth in China.

塞拉尼斯在华生产基地

塞拉尼斯进入中国已经20年了，目前在中国拥有3家全资企业和5家合资企业，为全球市场供货。

塞拉尼斯最早的合作伙伴是国家烟草专卖局中国烟草总公司，20年前双方即开始合作建立醋酸纤维公司，先后在南通、珠海和昆明建厂，生产醋酸纤维丝束和醋酸纤维素片。这三家厂在中国烟用醋酸纤维丝束市场占主要地位。

2001年，泰科纳（塞拉尼斯业务部之一）与日本宝理、韩国工程塑料以及三菱瓦斯化学在中国南通合资建立年产能6万吨的共聚甲醛（POM）生产厂- 宝泰菱工程塑料（南通）有限公司。

2007年4月，塞拉尼斯与天津市四友精细化学品有限公司的子公司河北四友卓越科技有限公司签署协议建立合资企业，生产、销售新癸酸乙烯酯。

塞拉尼斯的独资企业设在六朝古都南京，该综合化工基地坐落于长江以北的南京化学工业园区，相当部分的化学品将于2007年中在此投入商业生产。该基地包括醋酸、醋酸乙烯单体、醋酐，以及醋酸乙烯乳液、超高分子量聚乙烯和长纤增强热塑性塑料的生产装置。南京综合化工基地将使用塞拉尼斯的先进技术，并与公司在华醋纤合资企业一起成为塞拉尼斯在华发展的重要力量。
